Jim's Lunch, a restaurant forced to close down in March after an adjacent building had to be demolished, plans to reopen.

A well-known Millville restaurant that was forced to shut down in March amid fears the building next door could collapse has announced plans to reopen.

Jim’s Lunch announced on Facebook Thursday it will not be forced to remain closed this fall. The restaurant, which opened in 1923 and typically operates from Columbus Day through Memorial Day, was forced to shut down in late March after a neighboring building was deemed unsafe and had to be demolished.

“Looks like we are going to be able to open on Columbus Day as usual, give or take a week either way,” the restaurant said in the post.

The vacant adjacent property, which was owned by Ark Church, forced the closure of the restaurant and a stretch of Route 49 after a crack and a bulge in the building’s wall. The city paid $1.5 million for its demolition.

Millville mayor Michael Santiago said he is glad to see the business reopen.

“It is a good thing for the city of Millville that a place such as Jim’s Lunch, which has been (here) for so many years, that we will get to see its opening in October and I wish them nothing but success,” Santiago said.

Jim’s Lunch is an eatery well known in the city and was one of the places frequented by Millville native Mike Trout, the all-star outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels.
