N.J.’s best doughnut shop is this Shore spot, says a national food website.

Uncle Dood’s Donuts in Toms River is New Jersey’s best doughnut shop, says The Daily Meal.

The national web site, which picked the best doughnut shop in each state, praised Uncle Dood’s “fun, fancy and delicious” doughnuts, singling out such creations as the Vermont Swine (maple icing and bacon bites) and Bed Rockin’ (vanilla frosting and Fruity Pebbles).

“Can you think of anything more delicious and satisfying than a fresh, warm, pillowy donut?” the website asked. “Nope, you can’t. And neither can we.”

Uncle Dood’s made our list of 10 great doughnut shops in New Jersey. “Ob-Co’s Donuts, just off Rt. 37, is the longtime local doughnut legend, but Uncle Dood’s is the talk of the town,” according to that story.

Uncle Dood’s also made our roundup of the 12 craziest doughnuts in the state, with their — believe it — pork roll and cheese doughnut, pictured in the gallery above.

The Doughnut Plant is New York’s best doughnut shop, while Federal Donuts is the best in Pennsylvania, according to The Daily Meal.
