Outdoor pizza ovens can heat up to over 700ºF on the stone and 900ºF in the domeâthe temperatures you need for a perfect Neapolitan char on your crust. And while there are a variety of options out there, Ooni has put together a solid lineup of pizza ovens, with the Ooni Karu 12 being one of our favorite options. And, currently, it’s 25% off.

Why it Won Our Review
Though the Ooni 3 that Kenji tested is no longer available, the Ooni Karu 12 is similar in shape, though it features a wood-burning chamber instead of a wood pellet hopper. It heated up to more than 900ºF in just 15 minutes and the heat deflector aimed flames directly over pizzas, cooking the tops quickly and getting a nice char on the bottom. The Karu 12 is also very lightweightâonly 26 poundsâand the all-weather cover doubles as a carrying case. Our only gripe with it was learning how to manage the fire for consistent heating, but thatâs easily solvable with the gas burner addition (and in his review, Kenji notes that pizzas taste relatively the same no matter what the fuel source). Itâs an extremely versatile outdoor oven thatâs a steal now that itâs $100 (25%) off, and is a great choice if youâve been eyeing multi-fuel backyard pizza ovens.Â

FAQs
Is the Ooni Karu 12 worth it?Â
The Ooni Karu 12 is a lightweight, versatile multi-fuel outdoor pizza oven that hits 950ºF in just 15 minutes. It can cook a 12-inch pizza in 75 seconds, and itâs portable, too. We think itâs a reasonably priced outdoor pizza oven, and now that itâs on sale, it offers even more value.
Is the Ooni Karu 12 better at cooking pizza with wood or gas?
While a gas burner is more consistent and can deliver the same flame for hours on end, itâs easier to use wood as a fuel source when traveling with the oven since you donât have to also lug a heavy propane tank. Both can hit the same high 950ºF temperatures in the dome, so neither has a major advantage when it comes to heat.
