A Jersey Shore mall will likely soon be home to the state’s second BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse.
The Toms River Planning Board approved the new restaurant for the Ocean County Mall during a January 17 meeting, said Lucia Lynch, the board secretary. The resolution will go before the board again next Wednesday, February 7, for a formal adoption.
The 8,000 square-foot restaurant is planned for what is currently part of a parking lot along Hooper Avenue, Lynch said. It is not clear when construction will begin, as the matter must still go before the township’s zoning board.
The California-based company operates 197 stores across the nation, serving burgers, pizza, pasta, desserts and craft beer.
The Toms River restaurant would be the chain’s second in New Jersey, following the 2016 opening of a Teterboro location. The restaurant was one of the state’s most popular in 2017, according to check-in data from FourSquare.
A spokesperson for BJ’s did not return calls and emails seeking comment about the new location. A spokesperson for the Ocean County Mall said the mall does not comment on its retailers.
