Eggs, more eggs, Easter bunnies, stollen and more eggs. Spring is here and that means Easter is around the corner. Even when you’re without family, Dubai is a great place to celebrate Easter with lavish brunches!
It seems nothing is as varied as Easter traditions between different countries. I guess most of have dyed eggs, gone egg hunting, and met the Easter bunny. But did you know that the Dutch have egg wars, the Florencians light a cart with fireworks, the Finnish dress like witches, the Polish drench each other in water (the Hungarians have it better, at least they use perfumed water!), the French make giant omelettes, the Greeks throw pots and the Norwegians read crime novels? Oh and the Czech spank women and the Spanish do a death dance.
Some of us may have family over for Easter, but most have had them over for Christmas already. And that’s ok – Easter isn’t as big of a deal. That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t mind having a bit of stollen and being in good company for it. Given our social circles in Dubai look like the United Nations we’re bound to come across some of each other’s weird traditions. What better way to spend Easter than to enjoy a brunch with friends (hopefully they won’t drench your new outfit in water) – that is, after all, the Dubai tradition. Here are some suggestions for an egg-filled Easter, we will update with more options closer to Easter weekend.
Bab Al Shams, Al Qudra Rd. (575 AED pp) – Easter in the desert is of course the true Middle Eastern way of spending Easter. Atlantis, the Palm (price per activity) – Atlantis goes all out this Easter with a ton of activities catering for the whole family. Options are a daily underwater egg hunt (Ambassador Lagoon), family yoga, a scuba diving Easter Bunny and a kids party on Thursday the 29th of March with egg hunting, games, face painting and much more. For the adults there’s an adventure hunt on the 29th as well, several huge egg hunts throughout the grounds with the sea lions and dolphins also participating, and a family movie fest. And of course you can order Easter hampers with goodies.
Plato, Atlantis (AED 160 pp) – Plato’s High Tea has a special Easter theme between the 26th of March and the 7th of April with delectable mini cakes and desserts, sandwiches and canapes and of course lots of tea. And maybe a little glass of bubble?
Saffron, Atlantis (AED 535 pp) – As you would expect Saffron is putting on a big Easter brunch buffet on Friday the 30th of March with lots of international favourites and live cooking stations.
Bread Street Kitchen, Atlantis (AED 355 pp) – Enjoy a proper British Easter with some re-invented traditional dishes through a selection of starters, mains and a dessert buffet on the 30th of March.
The Edge, Atlantis (AED 230 pp) – What better way to celebrate Easter in Dubai than an outdoor BBQ. Making the most of the lovely weather while it lasts, enjoy freshly grilled steak, chicken, lamb and seafood with starters and salads and mouthwatering desserts. The special Easter BBQ runs from 26th of March to the 7th of April.
Ronda Locatelli, Atlantis (AED 310 pp) – Enjoy a traditional family brunch Italian style with a selection of RL’s signature dishes and some Easter staples whilst the little ones are entertained with games on the 31st of March.
Gaucho, DIFC (AED 405 pp) – On the 31st of March and the 1st of April head to Gaucho for some traditional roasts. Choose different cuts of meat, or a full asado and have the kids tire themselves out with games and colouring!
Sidra, St. Regis, Al Habtoor City (AED 225 pp) – Sidra hosts a lovely afternoon Easter tea from now until April 1st. Enjoy canapes, cakes and pastries and special tea blends to be paired with the flavours.
Manava, Sofitel the Palm (AED 475 pp) – On Friday the 30th of March bring the family to this beautiful resort for a day-long mini Easter vacation feel. The brunch consists of a delicious selection of international favourites, while the children are entertainted with face painting and a magic show. Don’t forget to participate in the Easter egg hunt, as precious stones and jewellery are hidden as well!
Pronto Café, Fairmont (AED 65 per child) – Bring the kids to Fairmont for some traditional Easter fun – including cookie decorating and a visit from the Easter bunny.
