It’s the unofficial start to the summer tourism season on Long Beach Island.

Thousands of visitors flocked to Beach Haven on Saturday for the fifth annual Hop Sauce Fest. The outdoor festival brings together food and craft beer enthusiasts.

“It’s one of the most important weekends for our business,” Rob Zarko, owner of the Ship Bottom Brewery, said in a statement announcing the event. “We showcase experimental and rare beers. It’s also great that people can stop by during or after the festival to try any of our 10-plus beers that we have on tap.”

Last year’s festival saw 6,000 people. This year’s attendance figures were not immediately available.

Nearly 30 restaurants from the Long Beach Island area will feature their hot sauces.
