Our search began in mid-June with a call for nominations. More than 100 hot dog joints were nominated; every one was put on a ballot, divided into four regions – North, North II, Central and South Jersey/The Shore. There are so few hot dog joints in South Jersey that we combined South Jersey and the Shore on one ballot.
About 30,000 people voted. The top six vote-getters in each region became 24 of our semifinalists; I picked the other 26. I then visited all 50 semifinalists over three weeks, then narrowed the field to 10 finalists, which were revisited.
And now we’re down to one – New Jersey’s best hot dog joint. Watch as I walk through the door of the winning hot dog joint at noon Tuesday.
What place will be named the state’s best hot dog joint? There will be celebration and jubilation if not outright mayhem!
